4 Reasons to Choose Mauritius for a Honeymoon

When thinking about romantic, sun-filled destinations for your newlywed clients, why not consider Mauritius? Here are four reasons to offer this island paradise, located off the coast of East Africa, as an ideal honeymoon destination.

1. Honeymoon Savings
Mauritius is one of those wonderful island destinations that caters to the honeymoon market by giving newlyweds a great deal. Many hotels in Mauritius feature amazing honeymoon specials such as a “brides stay free,” so the room is 50% off! For example, at the Hilton Mauritius, one person stays for free if booking the breakfast and dinner plan, plus the couple will receive a sarong and polo shirt, fruit platter, heart-shaped cake, cocktail with canapés, honeymoon pastries, a bottle of rum, and a surprise gift. At the Sofitel Imperial Resort and Spa, they also offer the “brides stay free” deal on their half-board meal plan, plus a champagne breakfast, a romantic candlelight dinner, a bottle of sparkling wine, a Sofitel souvenir, and fruit and chocolate platter. Note, in order to receive the honeymoon discounts, couples must take their honeymoon within 12 months of their wedding date.

2. It’s Really Beautiful
Mauritius is a small volcanic island surrounded by beautiful coral reefs, miles of white sand beaches, and an interior with lush subtropical forests and volcanic craters. It’s also known for the Seven-Coloured-Earth, a natural phenomenon where the sand dunes are marked by one of seven distinct colours. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic vacation.

3. Stay Active
People mistake Mauritius for being just a beach destination, however, there’s surprisingly a lot to do! Active couples will enjoy swimming with wild dolphins in their natural surroundings, going parasailing, scuba diving, horseback riding, or zip-lining. They can even go quad biking, or spend the day on one of the many catamaran cruises… the list goes on!

4. Great for Foodies
Mauritian cuisine is a melting pot of the various cultures living on the island, and is one of the most diverse in the world. Mauritius has a unique culture with Creole, African, Indian, and Chinese influences, and a wonderful range of cuisine – from “street” food to fine dining and private dining. You can try Dholl purri – pancakes stuffed with dholl (split peas) and served with curry and tomato sauce, Gateau Piment – deep fried chili cakes, popular as a snack, and of course, tons of choice for fish dishes, such as fish vindaye (like Indian vindaloo), as well as lots of fresh tropical fruits. Be sure to try it all!
