Goway Destination Specialist Returns from Germany

This week, Goway Travel Destination Specialist Hetal Patel, tells us all about her recent FAM expedition to Germany.

I have been in travel industry for more than 17 years and I love to travel, to try different food, and to learn about different cultures. I love each and every European country because of their beautiful landscapes and the incredible history. Germany is one of favourite countries, and I recently had the opportunity to visit some beautiful castles and towns, as well as the Black Forest.

On my whirlwind adventure, I roamed through Stuttgart, Frieburg, Lake Constance, Sigmaringen and the German capital, Berlin. Among many highlights, Hohenzollern Palace in Sigmaringen stood out. It’s located on top of a mountain and learning its history is well worth the detour. The palace itself is very well maintained and simply breathtaking. Beyond Hohenzollern Palace, I had the opportunity to stay in some lovely hotels. Stadhotel Freiburg, due to its location, is an excellent property for anyone visiting this forward-thinking, environmentally conscious town. The Steigenberger Inselhotel, found on a small island in Constance is worth mentioning. Amazing food can be enjoyed here, and everything is within walking distance. Lastly, the Abba Hotel in Berlin deserves a shout-out! Excellent location, and a nice breakfast buffet. What’s more, Berlin’s famed nightlife and shops are all easily reached on foot.

One thing that was a bit surprising to me was how robust German breakfasts are! There was much more variety in comparison to other European countries. Then there’s the beer, which is already well known… but wow! German beer is something special and tastes completely different to North American beer. Lesser known but no less worth mentioning, is that the wine scene is also quite incredible. I would highly recommend at least one winery tour for your guests’ next trip, in addition to a beer tasting tour!

If I had one key takeaway from my weeklong trip through Germany, it’s that I needed more time! I think that, for most regions and cities in Germany, at least three days are needed per location. I wish I’d had twice the time. There is certainly no shortage of incredible sights, along with welcoming locals and exciting activities to participate in throughout Germany.
