Navigate
The name, Hong Kong, means “Fragrant Harbour” and it is the geographical lay-out that makes it interesting – consisting of two distinct parts. One is the Mainland, which breaks down into the central area of Kowloon and the outlying area of the New Territories, and the other, Hong Kong Island. Both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island are urban centres, separated by the scenic Victoria Harbour. Another 200 offshore islands also make up Hong Kong, the largest and best known being Lantau.
Explore the two sides of Hong Kong with our 6-Day Discover Hong Kong Tour.
Dine
Discover the best local eateries, sample the egg tart (made famous by the last Hong Kong Governor, Chris Patten), dim sum, wonton noodles and “Hong Kong French toast”. A guided walking tour allows the traveller to explore the open air market stalls (dai pai dongs) such as Temple Street, which has excellent seafood, and Tsing Tao beers. With food stalls lining the street, this market has something for everyone.
Enjoy a unique dining experience is at the many floating restaurants in Aberdeen Harbour, on Hong Kong Island. This includes the well-known Jumbo Floating Restaurant, an excellent place for lunch or dinner.

Shop
Hong Kong is definitely one of the best shopping meccas in the world. The choices are manifold. You can find modern shopping malls and designer boutiques, but you can also find inexpensive bargains at the many local markets. A couple of the better known ones are the Ladies’ Market in Mongkok, Kowloon, which offers 100 stalls selling clothing and accessories, and the Temple Street Night Market which sells everything from trinkets to electronics, antiques, and clothing. Another major shopping venue is the iconic Stanley Market on Hong Kong Island, which is located among a string of alleyways and narrow streets, mainly frequented by overseas visitors searching for inexpensive souvenirs. Sample some of these shopping delights on our 11-Day Asia Sampler tour.
Explore
On the cultural side, there are many museums to enjoy such as the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of History, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art. For something different, try the Flagstaff House of Tea Ware. There are a number of old buildings worth visiting such as the Man Mo Temple, Hong Kong’s oldest temple, located on Hong Kong Island, and the Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden in Kowloon.
The island of Lantau certainly deserves some time. There is the exceptional Ngong Ping 360 cable ride which takes 25 minutes and runs across the island, offering outstanding panoramic views of the surrounding area. Visitors travel to Lantau Island to mostly see the awe-inspiring Big Buddha at the Po Lin Monastery and the colourful Tao O Fishing Village.
You can also discover the cultural side of Hong Kong on our 5-Day Hong Kong & Exotic Macau tour. This itinerary combines Hong Kong with Portuguese-influenced Macau, which is just a high-speed ferry ride away.
