Goway’s Soran Prasad returns from Kenya FAM

What cities/places did you visit in Kenya?

We spent one night at Hemingway’s Nairobi, 2 nights at Amboseli National Park staying at Elsa’s Kopje Lodge, 2 nights at Loisaba Tented Camp in Laikipia National Park, and 2 nights at Maasai Mara stayed at Sand River Camp.

What was your highlight and why?

The Animals and the camps we stayed at. We were very lucky to see the big 5, lion, leopard, white rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo, plus many more animals!

What was your favorite property and why?

All 4 were my favorites for different reasons. Hemingway’s is a luxury boutique hotel in a plantation-style property with butler service. The rooms were outstanding with a modern feel. Each room had a different back picture of Kenya.

Elsa’s Kopje Lodge is built around Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson’s original camp where he raised and released orphan lions. I loved this lodge for the history and the unique architecture as it is built around the rocks, with amazing views of Meru National Park or the Bush. No two rooms are the same. This boutique lodge has won many awards and must be one of the most romantic and elegant lodges in Africa.

Loisaba Tented Camp has this modern ultra-chic style that I loved. Stunning landscape here! We viewed the high rangelands with streams and rivers. We loved pickle pear plants. We were able to experience a camel safari and horse riding. Other activities are available as well such as fishing and mountain biking.

Sand River Camp features elegantly furnished canvas tents. I loved my craw-foot tub and the outdoor shower where the monkeys have a bird eye’s view. At night, you might hear the Elephants, buffalo, and lions walk thru the camp.

Each accommodation was consistent with the highest level of quality and service. Every meal was exceptional and the staff were amazing.

What are some interesting excursions, or itineraries that you would recommend?

The morning and afternoon Game drives were most amazing, To see the animals very close in the wild is like nothing else. Another highlight was having breakfast in the bush and our sundowners, a drink just before sunset out in the bush.

What’s your ‘Top Tip’ for agents selling Kenya?

Sell in advance to avoid disappointment. Accommodation will book quickly. Don’t stay in one place too long. You must move around as Kenya has diverse landscape and you will see different animals in each region. Go longer than one week to Kenya. Don’t take any plastic bags as they are now banned there. Consult with your doctor regarding malaria pills and yellow fever. Take a lot of photos and bring a back-up battery.
